A

Remove clothing and if necessary wipe chest dry.

17
Q

One pad on upper right side of chest; other pad on lower left side of childs chest (a few inches below the left armpit)

18
Q

If the AED pads touch where should they be placed?

A

Middle of chest and on back between shoulder blades

19
Q

Where to placed AED pads on an infant?

A

Middle of chest; in between shoulder blades on back

20
Q

When preparing AED to let it analyze the hearts rhythm, what do you need to make sure of? And what do you say?

A

Make sure no one is touching the child. CLEAR! (loudly).

21
Q

Steps to follow when caring for a choking child

A

1) Check to verify child is choking (if child can speak, cry, cough forcefully, encourage them to keep coughing. Observe and prepare to act if condition changes.
2) If child is unable to speak, cry or cough CALL 911, get equipment
3) give 5 back blows
4) give 5 abdominal thrusts
5) continue giving sets of 5 back blows/5 thrusts until child can cough, cry, or breath or until child becomes unresponsive

22
Q

When giving a choking child 5 back blows how do you position yourself?

A

Position yourself to the side and slightly behind the choking child, for a small child you may need to kneel behind them.
Place one on diagonally across the child’s chest and bend them forward at the waist.
Firmly strike the child between the shoulder blades with the heel of your hand. Each back blow should be separate from the other.

23
Q

When giving five abdominal thrusts, how do you stand & position yourself?

A

You have the child stand up and find their navel with two fingers. If you are standing, move behind them & place your front foot in between the child’s feet with your knees slightly bent.
Make a fist with your other hand in place the thumb side against the child’s stomach right above your fingers. Cover your fist with your other hand.
Pull inward and upwards to give in an abdominal thrust. Each abdominal thrust should be forceful and separate from the other.

24
Q

Caring for a child that is choking & the child becomes unresponsive, what’s your next step?

A

Lower the child to the floor and begin CPR starting with compressions. After each set of compressions and before attempting breaths, open the child’s mouth, look for the object and, if seen, remove it with a fingers sweep.

25
Steps for caring for a choking infant
1) check and verify infant is choking 2) if infant is unable to cry or cough CALL 911 and get equipment 3) give 5 back blows 4) give 5 chest thrusts 5) continue giving sets of 5 back blows and 5 thrusts until infant can cough, cry or becomes unresponsive
26
When you're giving an infant that is choking a five back blows, how do you hold the infant?
Hold the infant in a face down position along your forearm using your thigh for support. Keep the infant's head lower than their body. Give them back blows, with each one separate from the others. Keep your fingers up to avoid hitting infant's head or neck.
27
Explain how to give an infant 5 chest thrusts, when they are choking.
Turn the infant face-up (support their head and neck) and a lower them on to your thigh. Keep the infants head lower than their chest. Give 5 quick chest thrusts about 1.5" deep with 2 fingers in the center of the infants chest. (Each chest thrust should be separate from the others.)
28
When you're helping a choking infant and they become unresponsive, what is your next step?
Lower the infant to a firm, flat, surface, begin CPR, start with compressions. After each set of compressions and before attempting breath, open the infants mouth, look for the object and, is seen, remove it with a pinky sweep.
29
Steps for using direct pressure for bleeding
1) Check scene, obtain consent, use PPE 2) immediately call 911, get equipment 3) find source of bleeding 4)tell child to expect pain from the pressure needed to control the bleeding. 5) place dressing on the wound (use homeostatic dressing if available and bleeding is life threatening.) 6) apply steady, firm, pressure directly over the wound. 7) apply a roller bandage only if bleeding stops before EMS arrives 8) monitor for rebleeding. If bleeding occurs, do not apply additional dressing or bandage. Remove bandage and leave only the single dressing on wound in place. Apply direct pressure. 9) after care, remove gloves, wash hands
30
What are the steps for checking an injured our ill person?
1) Check scene for safety, obtain consent, use PPE 2) check responsiveness using shout-tap-shout method 3a) if the person does not respond, responds but is not fully awake, is not breathing or is only gasping, or has life threatening bleeding or another obvious life-threatening condition, call 911 and get equipment. Then give care based on the condition found and your level of training and continue your check to determine if additional care is needed. 3b) if the person is responsive or fully awake and does not appear to have a life threatening condition interview the person ask questions about signs and symptoms allergies and medications and medical conditions. Do a focus check based on what the person told you, how the person is acting and what you see. Do not ask the person to move, if you suspect ahead and neck or spinal injury. Do not ask the person to move any area of the body that causes discomfort or pain. 4) after completing check call 911 and get equipment
31
How many chest compressions do you give in adult? Hand position? Body position? Depth? Rate?
30 two hand centered on the chest shoulders directly over hands elbows locked Depth at least 2" Rate 100 to 120 per minute
32
Giving CPR to an adult is close to the same as a child but difference is in compressions ___
Depth
33
What's the ratio of chest compressions to breath for an adult?
30:2
34
The steps for caring for a choking adult is similar to that of a child but there is a difference in the way you give back blows explain how:
Position yourself to the side and slightly behind the choking person. Place one arm diagonally across the person's chest and bend them forward at the waist. Firmly strike the person between the shoulder blades with the heel of your hand. Each back flow should be separate from the other.
35
Caring for a choking adult is similar to that of a child but when giving abdominal thrust what is the different position that you stand in?
Have the person stand up and find their navel with two fingers. Move behind the person and place your front foot in between the person's feet with your knees slightly bent. Make a fist with your other hand and place the some side against the person's stomach right above your fingers. Cover your first with your other hand. Alternatively you may give chest thrusts to a person who is too large to wrap your arms around, pregnant or in a wheelchair.
36
Using direct pressure for bleeding on an adult, is similar to that of a child, but whenever you are applying pressure directly over the wound, what's different when you are doing that for an adult?
Put one hand on top of the dressing and put your other hand on top. Position your shoulders over your hands and lock your elbows. Push down as hard as you can. His blood is soaks through the original gauze, you do not need to do anything, but you can put another gauze pad on top. Replace the new gauze pad if blood soaks through that the pads. Do not remove the original gauze pad and do not stack multiple gauze pads. (Leave original pad, you can change out second gauze pad as needed)
37
When applying a roller bandage to an adult how do you apply it?
Apply bandage over dressing and secure it firmly. Check for circulation beyond the injury before and after applying the bandage.
