Q

What is the Chain of Survival when someone is experiencing Cardiac Arrest?

A

Call 911
Administer CPR
ADR - rapid defibrillation
Transportation to a Hospital
Life care in the Hospital

22
Q

What does AED stands for?

A

Automated
External
Defibrillator

23
Q

What does AED stands for?

A

Automated
External
Defibrillator

24
Q

What are the signs that a person needs CPR?

A

Collapsing suddenly
Unconsciousness
Not breathing
Having extreme difficulty breathing
No pulse

25
Q

What is the method of performing CPR?

A

C-A-B

Compressions
Airway
Breathing

26
Q

Steps of CPR

A

1.) Recognize the emergency
2)Call 9-1-1
3.) Check for breathing
4.) Provide chest compressions
5.) Open the victim’s airway
6.) Provide mouth to mouth breathing
7.) Repear chest compression and breathing

27
Q

How long is one cycle of CPR?

A

30 compressions and 2 breaths

28
Q

What does CPR stands for/mean?

A

Cardiopulmonary Reduscitation

29
Q

How do you perform the compressions?

A

C= Compressions
Get down to the level of the victim, lace your palms together, making sure your palm is flat on the victim’s chest and your fingers don’t touch the victim’s body. Right on the bottom of the victim’s breastbone. Right where the ribs come together.
Perform 30 compressions at a rate at least 100 compressions per minute

30
Q

How many compressions should you do minimum per minute?

A

At least 100

31
Q

What’s the next step after performing the chest compressions?

A

A= Aurway
Open the victim’s airway by tilting the the victim’s head using the chin-lift maneuver

32
Q

What is the Chin-Tilt maneuver?

A

The way you tilt the victim’s head during CPR to administer breath

33
Q

How do you perform the Chin-Tilt maneuver?

A

Put one palm on the victim’s forehead and gently tilt it back, then use the other hand to open up the airway gently by tilting the chin forward to open the airway

34
Q

How do you perform mouth to mouth breathing?

A

B= Breathing
Once you opened the victim’s Airway, you’ll pinch the victim’s nostril and cover his mouth with yours creating a seat. Then give the first reseque breath. Lasting for about a second. Make sure you are watching if the chest rises. If it does, give the second breath. If it doesn’t open the Airway again

35
Q

How long should you repeat the CPR cycles?

A

Till the Ambulance arrives or an AED becomes avaliable or the victim shows signs of life

36
Q

What is a Compression-Only CPR?

A

No breath administration

37
Q

When can you use Compression-Only CPR?

A

Only on victim’s that you see collapsing

38
Q

Compression-Only CPR should never be used on

A

-Victims who you did NOT witness collapse
-Victims under the age of 8
-Victims who collapse due to oxygen depletion from something like choking

39
Q

Can you perform a 2 person CPR?

A

Yes, it is preferred

40
Q

How do you perform a 2-Person CPR?

A

One person gives the 30 compressions, the other person gives the 2 breaths, after 5 cycles or 2 minutes they switch roles

41
Q

What are the common causes of chocking?

A

1.)Not chewing food properly
2.)Too-large pieces of food
3.)Eating too quickly
4.)Running walking or playing with food or other objects in mouth
5.)Talking or laughing while eating
6.) Drinking alcohol before or during meals

42
Q

What part of your hand do you perform the Chest Compressions?

A

The heel of the hand

43
Q

What to do for a person choking?

A

If they are able to cough, they should keep caughing forcefully
If they Can NOT:
Talk
Laugh forcefully
Cry
Perform the 5 and 5 approach

44
Q

What is the American Red Cross’s 5 and 5 approach?

A

5 back blows followed by 5 abdominal thrusts. Alternate this till the object blocking the airway gets dislodged

45
Q

What do you do if a chocking victim becomes unconscious?

A

Perform standard CPR

46
Q

How do you perform the 5 back blows on a choacking person?

A

Stand on the side, just behind the victim. Then put one arm just below the victim’s chest for support, then bend the victim over by the waste making the body parallel to the ground. Perform 5 back blows with the HEEL of your hand between the victim’s shoulder blades

47
Q

How do you perform the 5 abdominal thrusts?

A

Start by standing behind the victim. Then wrap your hands around the victim’s waist slightly tilting them forward.Make a fist with one hand and put it slightly above the navel.Next use your other hand to grab your fist and press forcefully into the abdomen with a fast upward trust

48
Q

Should you perform CPR before use of AED?

A

Yes

49
Q

When do you apply AED?

A

If the victim is still unresponsive and unconscious after CPR

50
Q

Should you stop CPR while you are applying the AED on the victim?

A

No, CPR should be kept administered while the AED is being applied

51
Q

Steps to the AED

A

1- Turn the AED on and follow the instructions
2- Open the victim’s shirt and wipe the victim’s chest dry
3- Attach the AED pads and plug in any necessary connectors
4- Tell everyone to “STAND CLEAR”
making sure that no one, not even you is touching the victim
5- Press the ANALYSE button
6- “SHOCK”- if the AED recommend to deliver a shock to the victim after analysing the heart rate, making sure everyone stands clear, you press the shock button and deliver the charge
7- Once the shock has been delivered, begin CPR immadietly

52
Q

What should you do, if the AED doesn’t recommend Shock?

A

Keep administering CPR till you see visible signs of life
