Cpr Flashcards
How many compressions per minute are you supposed to give for CPR?
100-120 beats per minute
How many inches deep are your compressions supposed to be for:
a. ADULT
b. CHILD
C. INFANT
A. 2-2 ½ inches
B. 2 inches
C. 1 ½ inches
When an infant is going to sleep what are 5 safety precautions you need to take before putting them down?
ABC rule
Follow “ABC” for infants under age 1
A= Alone. Infants should sleep alone
B= Back. Infants should be placed on their back every time until they are one year old.
C= Crib. Infants should be placed on a firm sleep surface
If someone is choking and nobody is around to help, how can they help themselves clear the object that is causing them to choke?
Individual can use a chair, table, desk etc. to perform abdominal thrusts on own.
List the 5 steps of the chain of survival.
Early Access
Early CPR
Early Defibrillation
Early ACLS
Early Post Resuscitative Care
Why should a bystander feel comfortable helping someone that is not responsive?
Good Samaritan Law
List 3 reasons why bystanders do not help people that are in a cardiac or choking emergency?
Don’t know CPR, scared to make worse, think someone else will do it, don’t know about
Good Samaritan Law
When you call 9-1-1 what are 3 key things that you need to remember?
Stay on the phone, know where you are, try and answer questions calmly, Describe situation
What are 4 typical signs of a heart attack?
Pressure or tightness in chest, pain in the chest, back, jaw and other areas of the upper body that lasts more than a few minutes or that goes away and comes back, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, sweating, nausea, upset stomach
Describe 4 steps of what we can do to help a person that is possibly suffering from a heart attack.
Call 9-1-1, make person comfortable, ask about medication and get if you can, stay with them, prepare to perform CPR and/or AED in case they go into cardiac arrest.
What is the difference between cardiac arrest and a heart attack?
Cardiac arrest is when a person’s heart suddenly and unexpectedly (often without any prior symptoms) stops beating. Unconscious and not breathing properly
A heart attack is a blockage of blood flow to a portion of the heart that may damage an area of the heart muscle. A person having a heart attack is conscious and often experiences certain symptoms. A heart attack may trigger cardiac arrest.
Describe the difference between women and men having a heart attack.
Men tend to have more severe signs and symptoms. Women have been more known to have discomfort. Sometimes they don’t realize they are having a heart attack so they go to sleep and never wake up…
How quickly do we need to start CPR for best chance of survival and no severe consequences?
As quick as you possibly can. Rates for survival go way up if someone starts within 1 minute & does not stop for more than 10 seconds.
What position do you put a person in when they respond after a cardiac emergency?
Recovery position (on their side)
CPR compressions?
Like two hands? Two fingers? Or one hand?
Infant = two fingers in center of chest,
compressing 1.5 inches
Child = 1 or 2 hands in center of chest,
compressing 2 inches
Adult = 2 hands in the center of the chest,
compressing 2 inches
