CPDT-KA Professional Practices & Ethics Flashcards
What is the 1st tier of the Humane Hierarchy?
Health
What does DRA mean?
Differential Reinforcement Alternative (Behaviour)
What is the 3rd tier of the Human Hierarchy?
R+: Positive Reinforcement
Adding something to increase a behaviour
What does DRO mean?
Differential Reinforcement Other (Behaviour)
Give an example of using DRI with a jumping dog.
Sending the dog to their mat.
Using the 7 tiers of the Humane Hierarchy, give an example of what you would do at the 4th tier for a dog who is counter surfing?
4th tier = Alternative Behaviours: consider the 4 different differential reinforcers for behaviours, an alternate behaviour would be to ask the dog to sit when it looks at the counter (DRA). Or ask the dog to leave the kitchen to their mat (DRI).
There are 2 ways to renew your CPDT-KA before it expires. What are the options?
- Complete 36 CEUs, sign the required professional ethics and practices statements and submit a potential question for the CPDT-KA exam
- Or retake the exam and sign the professional ethics and practices statements
What is the 4th tier of the Human Hierarchy?
Alternative Behaviours (DRI, DRO, DRA, DRE)
What does DRI mean?
Differential Reinforcement Incompatible (Behaviour)
Give an example of using DRA with a jumping dog.
Asking the dog to target your hand: Nose touch
What is the 6th tier of the Humane Hierarchy?
R-: Negative Reinforcement
removing something to increase a behaviour
What does LIMA stand for?
Least Intrusive, Minimally Invasive
Using the 7 tiers of the Humane Hierarchy, give an example of what you would do at the 6th tier for a dog who is counter surfing?
6th tier is Negative Reinforcement (R-): (remove something to increase a behaviour) when the dog jumps up on the counter you place your arm across the counter in front of them (body-blocking) to prevent them from accessing the desired object. When the dog goes back to 4 on the floor reward. You have removed (negative) their access, required them to make a choice to jump down and then rewarded (reinforced) the behaviour of jumping down.
What is the 5th tier of the Humane Hierarchy?
P-: Negative Punishment
Removing something to decrease a behaviour
Using the 7 tiers of the Humane Hierarchy, give an example of what you would do at the 7th tier for a dog who is counter surfing?
7th tier = Positive Punishment (P+): (Add something to decrease a behaviour) using a shock mat or Scat Mat placed on the counter that shocks the dog when their paws land on it would be positive (adding a shock) punishment (reducing a behaviour) way of altering the behaviour.
