Q

How do you know if your life jacket is ok to use?

A

At the PLA, our life jackets would be serviced annually. Each life jacket was personal to each employee, and each jacket had a date tag which told you when it would need to be serviced next.

Q

What did you learn about the property life cycle and where asbestos might be located?

A

Acquisition: Before buying a property, request the asbestos survey and current management plan. There is a legal requirement for the previous owner to have been managing any asbestos present and have the appropriate documentation in place.

Development/Repair: Prior to any renovation or demolition work, identify and safely remove ACMs. Follow asbestos regulations and hire certified asbestos abatement professionals if needed.

Occupancy/Use: Maintain awareness of the location and condition of any ACMs.
Implement a management plan if ACMs are present to prevent disturbance.

Regular Maintenance: Continuously monitor and assess ACMs for signs of damage or deterioration. Perform maintenance and repairs by trained professionals if needed.

Property Sale/Transfer: Disclose the presence of ACMs to potential buyers. Provide documentation of any asbestos management or removal work.

End-of-Life/Property Demolition: Properly handle ACMs during demolition, including safe removal and disposal
