What is CPD?
The process by which individual registrants keep themselves up to date in order to maintain the highest standards of professional practice

What is reflective practice?
1) The application of reflection with the intention of improving our professional practice
2) Involves self evaluation AND then changing or modifying practice in response to:
- feedback from others
- self reflection or assessment
what are the Current GPhC CPD requirements
1) Call for review every 5 years
2) Min. 9 CPD entries per year
3) Reflect context & scope of practice
4) Record must be: Legible, On GPhC approved documentation - electronic or paper
5) CPD record: Complies with good practice criteria in plan and record
6) Must record how CPD task has contributed to quality or development of your practice
Why does the GPhC review CPD records?
1) The GPhC standards for conduct, ethics and performance require all pharmacy professionals to maintain and improve the quality of their practice by keeping their knowledge and skills up to date and relevant to their roles and responsibilities.
2) The CPD review mechanism is designed, in part, to monitor compliance with the declaration each Pharmacist makes when they renew their registration.
How can reflection be used to identify your learning (CPD) needs?
1) Significant event analysis

What should be done for the Planning section of a CPD?
1) Set a realistic time frame for the learning

What should be done for the Action section of a CPD?
1) Carry out one or more of the activities suggested - Within the timeframe
2) Describe what you have learnt
What is Evaluation?
Assessment of how effective your learning has been
What should be done for the Evaluation section of a CPD?
Describe how you applied what you learned - Describe how this has benefited your practice
how does a CPD started at action differ from a CPD started at reflection
1) Action: - Unplanned learning - A single activity
2) Reflection: - Planned learning - Multiple activities - More in-depth learning
Why does the GPhC review CPD records?
1) To ensure that your CPD complies with the minimum requirements and conditions for CPD recording
2) To monitor compliance with the declaration each Pharmacist makes when they renew their registration
What is a learning portfolio?
1) A collection of evidence for learning
2) For reference only - evidence for CPD
3) May be requested by GPhC
