Patient - lateral recumbent, involved should up
Physician - faces the patient’s front contacting scapula posteriorly with both hands (superior hand stabilizes anterior & posterior aspect of scapula)
Dx: Glenohumeral Joint Dysfunction
Tx: Spencer’s Technique
Patient - lateral recumbent
List the 7 Stages of Spencer’s Technique
1) Extension
2) Flexion
3) Compression Circumduction
4) Traction Circumduction
5A) Adduction & ER
5B) Abduction
6) Internal Rotation
7) Traction with Inferior Glide

Tx: GH Extension SD Muscle Energy

Dx: Extended Glenohumeral Joint
Tx: GH Flexion SD Muscle Energy

Dx: Abducted, Adducted, IR, & ER Glenohumeral Joint
Tx: GH Muscle Energy

Perform following Treatment:
Elevated/Adducted SC Joint SD Articulatory Tx
pt lying supine with neck fully flexed resting against physician’s chest, examiner seated at head of table
> physician places thumb over sternal end exerting downward/caudal pressure on clavicle
> pt instructed to inhale & exhale fully. during exhalation physician springs clavicle inferiorly to release restriction
Perform following Treatment:
Elevated/Adducted SC Joint SD Muscle Energy
pt lying supine, examine on side of affected shoulder
Perform following treatment:
Horizontal Extension SC Joint SD Muscle Energy
pt lying supine, examiner on side of affected shoulder
Dx: Clavicle Anterior & Superior Glide
Tx: SC Joint Articulatory Technique
doctor on contralateral side to SD
