Cp11 Electromagnetic Introduction Flashcards
What is a transformer made off
Two coils of wire wound into an iron core
What does the effect of electromagnetic induction course on the transformer wire
It means that a voltage in one coil causes a voltage in the second coil
How is electrical power measured
The potential difference Is a measure of the energy transfers by each coloumb of charge that flows through a wire the current measures the number of coloumbs per second
Why must the primary coil be equal to the power transfers away from the transformer in the secondary coil
Because energy cannot be created or destroyed so the power supplied to a trans former in the primary coil must be equal to the secondary coil
What do transformers only work with
An alternating current
