CP Route v1 Vocabulary Ch05 Flashcards
Area
a grouping of routers and router interfaces, typically contiguous, that strive to learn all topology information about routers within the group
Area Border Router
a router that has interfaces connected to at least 2 different OSPF areas, one of which must be the backbone area; hold topolgy data for each area connected to, and calculate routes for each area and advertise about those routes between areas
Backbone router
any OSPF router that has at least 1 interface connected to the backbone area
Dead Interval
with OSPF, the timer used to determine when a neighboring router has failed, based on a router not receiving any OSPF messages, including Hellos, in this time period; aslo called Dead Timer
Fully adjacent
any OSPF neighbor for which the database flooding process directly between the 2 neighbors has completed; not all neighbors directly exchange databases, so not all routers will reach this state
Hello Interval
with OSPF, an interface timer that dictates how often the router should send Hello messages
OSPF network type
a characteristic of OSPF interfaces that determines whether a DR election is attempted, whether neighbors must be statically configured, and the default Hello and Dead timer settings
Router ID
in OSPF, a 32-bit number, written in dotted deicmal, that uniquely identifies each router
