How is the SSF 1604 used?
It is used by the banks to forward counterfeit notes to the local USSS field office.
Why is the remarks section of the SSF 1604 so important?
Because it provides clues to start investigation.
What is the CTA, (Counterfeit Tracking Application) used for?
1) Search US currency
2) Review CFT note history
3) Pull any investigative leads, talk to other SA’s in squad/office.
Where does the office/agent stamp the rapidprint number on the counterfeit bill?
The upper margin of the back side of the item.
In rapidprint number 115 3 00234, what does each each group of number represent?
115 is the office code
3 is the last digit of the fiscal year (2013)
00234 is the sequential number
What is the CTA?
Counterfeit Tracking Application-Database of all CFT contraband of record with the USSS. Includes items both in evidence and not in evidence (NIE). Electronic chain of custody for all CFT evidence inventories (SSF 1544’s). Provides coplete and detailed information on the note. Comprehensive reporting on CFT processing statistics. Provides customized, detailed search results for CFT.
What is a “Run-Out”?
When an SSF 1604 is assigned to you to investigate an counterfeit note.
What does the acronym NIE stand for?
Not In Evidence
When does a note get categorized as NIE?
When there are no suspects or significant leads developed?
How long will the office retain NIE?
Two years, then SAT Rosa will destroy them by burning them.
What does the “Dollar Map” link in FIRS show?
It provides the placement of a note’s identifiers. Example, Note Position Letter and Number, Face Plate Letter and Number, Back Plate, Series Year, Serial Number ect.
In FIRS, where do “run outs” get assigned to agents?
In FIRS, under “My FIIs” tab….The run-outs that have been assigned to you will be at the bottom of the page.
What do you do if you come across a note that is “Not of Record” in the CTA?
For all notes not of record in CTA, conduct an INITIAL FIELD EXAMINATION, to determine:
1)Descriptive info
2)Methods of printing if any portion of the note is manufactured using traditional process it must be reported as new CFT and assigned a new CFT (NC) #
3)Paper
After doing all this and notifying your supervisor:
1)Obtain a new CFT (NC) number through CTA
2)Immediately initiate an investigation
