Strange reputation, complete distrust of outsiders
Joseph started core of today’s domaine in 1960’s
Joseph died in 2008.
Joseph-Phillipe & Pierre-Jean (11th Generation) takeover
Charmes-Chambertin ‘tres vielle vignes 60% planted 1881
Destemming & Coldsoak prior to fermentation at ≥30° C
Matured in Oak usually ≥ 2 years, not all new either tho

Based out of Gevrey sine 1909
One of the first to domaine bottle circa 1930’s
Armand died in 1959. Son Charles took over
90% of wines exported from France
Son Eric started working at domaine in 80’s
Estate today owns just under 14 hectares
8.01 hectares of AOC Grand Cru
Avg vine age is around 40-45 yrs
90% destemmed
≥31°C durring fermentation
Heat cellar to haste onset of Malo Ferm
Chambertins & Clos St. Jacques 100% New
Other Grand Crus get 30% New French
Most consistant, high-achieving in Gevrey

A

William Ponsot started Domain in 1872
He died with no children in 1926
Domaine passed to cousin Hippolyte Ponsot
He was an army captain, lawyer, diplomat
Helped create the AOC system in 1935-36
Hippolyte retired in 1956
Son Jean-Marie Ponsot took over
Jean-Marie was mayor of Morey Saint Denis
Son Laurent Ponsot took over in 1983
No new oak
Buys 5 yr old barrels from known producers
Introduced ‘white spot’ on labels (bad storage)
Bottled 2003 vintage only in Mags!
2007- Uses plastic cork from Italy on all wines

Today they manage just over 15 hectares
Biodynamic & Organic farming is practiced
Consistent yields of smaller berries/bunches
Son Jeremy Seysses now manages vinification
Also manages negoc Maison Dujac Fils et Pere
Traditionally vinified 100% with stems
Whole grape-bunches, low-temp fermentation
Significant percentage of new Allier French Oak
Wines typically evolve 12-16 months in cask

Then Domaine Jean-Claude Fourrier
Became Domaine Fourrier in 1992
Jean-Marie Fourrier worked under Henri Jayer and Domain Drouhin in Oregon prior to taking over winemaking at the domaine in 1995
Today manages 10 hectares
As little interference in vineyard / cellar
Only fruit older than 30yrs is retained
New oak % just enough to replace old barrels
Around 20% new oak

Domaine Georges Roumier

A

George Roumier married Genevieve Quanquin in 1924 and brought with her a dowry of vines, thus starting Domaine Georges Roumier
In beginning amount of vines were relatively small so George also worked as the vineyard manager for Comte Georges de Vogue
Georgre had 7 children - 5 boys
Jean-Marie Roumier took over in 1950’s
Son Christophe Roumier took over in 1990
All wines domaine bottled in 1984
Very low yields, severe pruning
