Cosmology Flashcards
1
Q
Define the cosmological principal
A
The assumption when the universe is viewed on a large enough scale it appears homogenous and isotropic. The laws of physics are the same throughout.
2
Q
Homogeneous
A
Matter is distributed uniformly across the universe. For very large volume, the density of the universe is uniform this means thatthe same types of structures are seen everywhere
3
Q
Isotropic
A
Meanest that the universe looks the same in a lll directions to every observer. It follows that there is no centre or edge to the universe
4
Q
Hubbles law
A
The recessional speed v of a galaxy is almost directly proportional to its distance d from the Earth
