David Hume-
1- inconsistent
2- just because everything within the universe doesn’t mean that the universe itself has to.
3- causality is a human invention created through the observation of the world around is and therefore can only apply to what we have experienced (similar to Kant)

J.L Mackie-
1- causation gives a reason behind occurrences but this doesn’t mean it must apply to the whole totality of causes
2- it is just as likely for the universe to be “not determined by anything” than for the “existence of a god with the power to create something out of nothing”
