what is coryza?
A
an acute viral infection of the nasal passages.

which viruses cause it?
A
mainly rhinovirus but also coronavirus and adenovirus and RSV

what makes defence hard for the immune system?
A
rhinovirus has at least 100 different strains so hard to confer protection

what is the transmission like?
A
highly infectious
spread by droplet

what are the symptoms ?
A
watery nasal discharge - rhinorrhea
sneezing
fatigue
mild pyrexia
malaise
sore nose and throat

what are the complications of coryza?
A
Sinusitis Acute bronchitis Secondary bacterial infections (minority) Otitis media (sore ear) bronchiolitis

what is the treatment?
A
it is self limiting so Treatment: herbal extracts, bed rest, fluids, isolation
