Corticosteroids Flashcards
1
Q
What are the actions of glucocorticoids in terms of acute and chronic inflammatory response?
A
Glucocorticoids inhibit both acute and chronic inflammatory response by decreasing production of pro-inflammatory chemical mediators (anti-inflammatory actions) and reducing some populations of circulating immune cells (immunomodulatory actions)
2
Q
Glucocorticoids inhibits which expression?
A
COX expression, thus preventing production of thromboxane A2 and PGI2
3
Q
What is done if there is an increased ESR?
A
Give high dose steroids immediately.
