Q

What past work experience have you had that qualifies you for this position?

A

I work with customers both expecting an unexpectedly. Have to gain access to customers yards and know how to handle pets. Do corrosion surveys on every order visited. Handle UOC,s and am able to correct and create orders in fieldsmart. Know how to apply tape coating. Contact the corrosion department when ground wires found attached to our risers. Use both my map book and fieldsmart maps on a daily basis. Respond to emergency calls that cause me to work in streets. Have to direct and detour traffic. Handle special projects that cause me to meet with and work directly with the construction, warehouse, and measurement departments, ELM crews, contractors and project superintendents. Create spreadsheets for supervisors. Handle and keep track of due dates for projects and 2#gauges. Use hot change cart to install insulators on both 1/4 lb and 2 lb MSA’s.

Q

Explain your knowledge and experience working with electricity.

A

Trouble shooting appliances, use voltmeter when checking for possible electricity at our meters. I ran the electric to my spa at my house. Had to troubleshoot my current home to find out why electricity was out in multiple locations in the house. Found shorted out outlet in one of the bedrooms. Tested each breaker to make sure they were working. Have changed out ceiling fans, water heaters, outlets in home, bathroom lighting.

Q

What is the difference between an anode and a cathode?

A

The anode is the electrode of a electrochemical cell in which oxidation occurs. The cathode is the electrode of a electrochemical cell in which reduction is the principle reaction.

Q

Why are insulating fittings installed on meter set assemblies?

A

It is a protective measure to keep the customers house from grounding out the protection to our system.

17
Q

What kind of current is used for catholic protection?

A

DC/Direct current

18
Q

Describe different methods and/or items to consider when scheduling, organizing, and prioritizing your work.

A

What are my due dates. When are our busiest time of year, supervisor needs, keep in mind when vacations are scheduled or when you know someone will be off. Plan harder tasks when you know people are around to help or might need you. When does work need to be entered into the system to keep dates accurate. If something can wait save that for slower periods. When new tasks are given, re-prioritize and reorganize you tasks.

19
Q

Describe different methods you use or are aware of, to see that required completion dates and/or times are met.

A

Filing system, calendar/appointment book, to do list, post it notes, Outlook email calendar and reminders. Cell phone appointment alerts. Make sure you keep track of schedule changes and update your deadlines as soon as notified so you do not forget. Use other programs that can help organize your work and deadlines such as Excel.

20
Q

When do you feel the need to approach your supervisor for a decision?

A

Change in policy or practice. Clarification of a policy or practice. Anything that requires supervisor authority or heads up. If you are unsure how to proceed with a job. When you have a new idea you would like to suggest.

21
Q

How do you deal with multiple priorities and deadlines.

A

Be organized. Stay in the loop of deadline changes. Prioritize and plan tasks and deadlines and revisit your schedule often to make sure things are still on schedule.Communicate, If you cannot complete a task on time ask for help. Also if you end up ahead of schedule. Offer your help to your coworkers.

22
Q

Which type of job duties do you prefer, we’ll laid out tasks, or tasks that change frequently?

A

At this point in my life I would have to say well laid out tasks. I can handle things changing and crazy but with how badly I want to complete my degree and learn a new position scheduled tasks would be beneficial to say the least.

23
Q

What do you do to overcome interruptions in your schedule?

A

Stay on track, stay organized, prioritize consistently when new tasks arrive. Communicate, ask for help if needed. Leave a little time in your schedule for unforeseen or immediate needs that can come up. If you end up with available time left over you can use that time to help coworkers and build comradery.

24
Q

How do u set and measure goals?

A

first of all set a reachable goal. figure out what you need to do to get there and plan things accordingly. Revisit your timeline often to see if you are on track for your goal. If not then figure out what happened and try again. I measure my goals along the way. I ask myself am I doing all I can to accomplish my goal. Sometimes life might change a goal you originally had. If that happens then create a new one that your path is now on.

25
Q

How would you handle an angry customer?

A

Listen to what they have to say. Sometimes they just need someone to know there concerns matter. Stay calm, positive, and respectful. Sympathize with there situation. Find something you can relate to with them. Be understanding and positive. Find out if there is something you can do to help them feel better about a situation or that will relieve their concerns.

26
Q

Have you ever delt with irate customers or co-workers that were verbally abusive? How did you deal with them?

A

Yes I have. The most recent occurred when I responded to an emergency call. Customer had odor throughout their house. When I got there I took inside reads and got the customers story. Upon entering the home there was a strong odor of a decomposing nature. I immediately went to the furnaces and found a dead animal in the return air compartment which is where the air is circulated throughout the house. Although I was confident the problem was found I still needed to perform flow, lockup, clock test, and service all appliances. Last appliance was a match lite fireplace that had no gas coming out.

27
Q

How do you resolve problems between you, your co-workers, or your supervisor?

A

Stay calm and respectful. Try and handle the problem between you and the other person first. Problem could be as simple as a misunderstanding. If you can’t fix things one on one. Speak to your supervisor or his if u and your super are having the problem. Utilize human resources is needed but follow chain of command.

28
Q

What steps would you take to encourage teamwork between the corrosion department and other departments in the company?

A

Say hi every chance you get. Be respectful, helpful, and understanding. Don’t talk down to people or act like your department is more important than theres. Be available to help if your schedule allows.

29
Q

Define catholic protection.

A

Cathodic protection is the process used to control the corrosion of a metal surface by making it the cathode of the electrochemical cell. When metal is put in the ground a natural occurring electrical current flows from the metal. As the current leaves corrosion occurs. CP with help from an anode reverses that natural current from leaving the metal surface. There are 2 types of CP systems we use. Galvanic and Impressed.

37
Q

Why is coating applied to gas piping?

A

It provides a barrier between the piping/ cathode and the soil/electrolyte. It is used in the corrosion prevention process.

38
Q

What are pipe to soil reads?

A

The potential reading taken between the pip and the copper sulfate electrode in contact with the electrolyte.
