Q
How does a small hollow on the side of a mountain fill with ice? 🧊
A
Snow collects in a small natural hollow on the side of a mountain. Over time further snow collects in the hollow. This extra weight compresses the snow underneath, turning it to ice. 🧊

Q
How is a corrie made?
A
- Snow gathers in a hollow then turns to ice.
- Material from the base of the hollow is plucked out by the ice and abrades the hollow making it deeper.
- Eventually the ice outgrows the hollow and goes down the slope due to gravity
- When the ice melts it leaves a deepened hollow called a corrie
- Sometimes the corrie fills up with water to make a lake. This is called a tarn
