Corpus striatum Flashcards
What separates the head of caudate nucleus and the lentiform nucleus
Ant limb of internal capsule which is a white matter tract containing projection fibers
Lentiform nucleus
Putamen
Globus pallidus
What separates lentiform nucleus and thalamus
Post limb internal capsule
What surrounds the putamen
External capsule which is white matter
What surrounds the external capsule
The claustram: thin band of grey matter
What surrounds the claustrum
Extreme capsule of white matter
What surrounds extreme capsule
Grey matter called insular lobe, very very hidden
Head of caudate
Lateral wall of ant horn of lat ventricle
Tail of caudate
Roof of inf horn lat vent
Putamen
Lat to int capsule and globus pallidus
Claustrum and insula are lat to putamen
Globus pallidus
Medial to putamen and int capsule
Connections of striatum
Afferents:
1. Corticostriatal- cerebral cortex regions and striatum, IPSI and CONTRAlateral, glutamate and excit.
- Thalamocortical- intralam. Nuclei, glut. And excit. (Thalamus and cortex with striatum)
- Nigrostriatal- pars compacta of substantia niagra, dopamine
Major output of corpus striatum
Globus pallidus
