Q

Connections of striatum

A

Afferents:
1. Corticostriatal- cerebral cortex regions and striatum, IPSI and CONTRAlateral, glutamate and excit.

  1. Thalamocortical- intralam. Nuclei, glut. And excit. (Thalamus and cortex with striatum)
  2. Nigrostriatal- pars compacta of substantia niagra, dopamine

16
Q

Striatal efferents

A

To g pallidus and substantia nigra
Striatopallidal
Striatonigral

17
Q

Pallidal afferents

A

Connections TO G Pallidus

From striatum and
subthalamic nucleus

Inhibitory

Striatopallidal
Subthalamopallidal ( in fasciculus)

Terminate on both divisions

18
Q

Pallidal efferents

A

Pallidothalamic
Info goes from ext gp to thalamus via subthalamic fasciculus

Inhibitory via GABA
TO THALAMUS or midbrain

19
Q

Ansa lenticularis

A

Int GP
More rostral (inferomedial aspect of int capsule)
To thalamus

20
Q

Lenticular fasciculus

A

IGP to thalamus

21
Q

Thalamic fasciculus

A

Both ansa lenticularis and lenticular fasciculus

22
Q

Cerebral aqueduct

A

Connects 3rd and 4th ventricle

23
Q

Substantia niagra

A

Bilateral nucleus
Midbrain
Ventral (below) c. Aqueduct
Dorsal (above) crus cerebri (tract from brain stem to cortex, white matter)

Black: neuromelanin (thought to protect cells)

24
Q

Nuclei of substantia niagra

A

Pars compacta: closest to red nucleus (more dorsal)

Pars reticulata: more ventral, closest to curs cerebri

25
Q

Huntington’s disease

A

Neurodegen.
Neurons die
