Cornell Notes 13 Flashcards

1
Q

Why do human body systems need to work together?

A

Human body systems work together to perform all the necessary functions for life.

Example: Cells need oxygen provided by the respiratory system and transported by the circulatory system, which are controlled by the nervous
and endocrine system

Q

What do each of the three movement systems do to cause movement?

A
  • Muscles are attached to bones and provide a force that can move the bones
  • Muscle contracts: is shortens and pulls on the bones it is attached to (skeletal)
  • Your brain (the nervous system) sends signals to your muscles to make them contact

Q

what are the 2 ways the body has communicating and controlling functions (include what body system they are a part of)?

A

1) Electrical signals from nerves (nervous system).
2) Chemical signals (hormones) (endocrine system).

Q

What is the job of blood in terms of getting cells and helping cells get rid of waste products?

A

Blood vessels in the in the circulatory/cardiovascular system to carry all of these things around the body
- Blood picks up oxygen in the lungs and nutrient molecules (from food) from the intestines and delivers them to needy cells
- At the same time, blood collects carbon dioxide and wastes from the cells for excretion (in lungs or kidneys)

Q

Define stimulus and response

A
  • Any change or signal in the environment that can make an organism react in some way is called a stimulus.
  • A response is an action or change in behavior that occurs as a result of stimulus

Q

what are glands?

A

Q

what is the job of ADH?

A

ADH (Antidiuretic Hormone): works with the excretory system and circulatory system to regulate the amount of water in the body by controlling hoe much water the kidneys absorb
