New 4937 SS PRO RIB
99 Day
New Level of Rootworm Protection w/ SS Pro
Very Good Roots and Stalks
Doesn’t Need Insecticide
Semi-flex Ear - Plant 32-36,000
Good agronomics (safe play but sacrificing yield)
Will move south
5005 SS, VT2, Conv
100 Day
Very Good Stalks and Roots
My favorite early SmartStax
I feel real comfortable leaving it in the field
Some of the strongest roots I’ve seen in the industry
18-20 rows around ear
Big ole blocky stump of an ear!
Good flex for a blocky eared hybrid so you can plant 32-36,000
Tall with lots of yield potential
4800 Conv
98 day
Has shown outstanding yields in the 98 day maturity
Has very good stress and drought tolerance
Has a very good overall disease package
Excellent conventional, because it has excellent root strength and good stalks for late season harvest
New 4830 TreRib
98 day
TreRib is Bayer Product with limited distribution - something to diversify our lineup
TreRib is VT2 with Viptera, so triple mode of action on above ground insects
Very Good Stalks and Roots
Dual purpose hybrid with excellent silage potential
Flex ear can handle wide range of population 32-36,000
Didn’t produce any this year
New 4930 VT2
99 day
Great early vigor
Yields well in tougher yield environments/less productive soils
Good number for no-till
Semi flex ear so you can plant 32-36,000
Very good agronomics (holds back yields)
Good tar spot rating
Silage potential (quality not tonage)
5120 SS, TreRib
101 day
TreRib is VT2 w/ Viptera, so triple modes of action on above ground insects
TreRib is Bayer Product with limited distribution - something to diversify our lineup
Consistent across all yield environments
Good Tar Spot tolerance
Very Good Stalks and Roots
Good stay green and late season intactness for our later harvested acres
Big ole stump of an ear - 18-20 round
Perfect for along terraces and waterways or following a cover crop
Clean conversion between SS and TreRib
9 Bu/acre better than 5280SS
Better than 5280 in low yield environments
Doesn’t have great early vigor
Not great drought tolerance or stalk strength
5280 SS, VT2, Conv, Org, RR, Unt
102 day
Our largest volume genetics we sell
Almost a perfect hybrid for northeast Iowa because it consistently yields on all soil types and fertility
Works on sand and does excellent on clay hills
Has great top end on your better ground
It really jumps out of the ground and has super early vigor, so you can plant it early
Looks great right away
Responds well to fungicide
You can cut down population due to it’s excellent ear flex - 28-36,000
Gets weaker in the knees during late season
SS has significant yield drag - better going with 5120SS
5200 VP, Duracaid
Syngenta traited, but one of the inbreds is SGI. So 2 originators are collaborating on it. If SGI is for it, its a safe product
Great test weight and grain quality
Excellent emergence and late season integrity, so you can leave it out in the field if you need to
Excels in high yield environments
Some people don’t like Syngenta products
Taller product (some guys don’t like that) but has late season integrity to combat that
A tad higher priced
New 5435 Conv, Unt
104 day
Tremendous late-season intactness and plant health
Consistent performer with excellent test weight
Very good tar spot tolerance
Yields very well on your better to average ground
Wouldn’t recommend it on your wet or sandy soils
Doesn’t like wet feet
Semi-flex ear so you can cut down populations to 28-36,000
Will be available in PCE next year
5300 VT2
103 day
5300 is the newer and improved version of 5280VT2
It’s my favorite on our best ground
You need to keep populations up 36-38,000 because of it’s determinate ear
Responds well to fungicide and extra nitrogen
Excellent early vigor and roots means you can plant it early and harvest it later
4990 SS, VT2
99 day
Only produced 30 bags of VT2 and none of SS
Jumps out of the ground really fast
Very good stalks and roots
Works well on all soil types and has great drought tolerance
It dries down really well because the husk flairs out and lets air in to dry the grain faster
Hardly any stalks, so won’t be fighting all that trash next spring
Keep those populations up around 34-38,000
New 5430 SS, DGVT2
104 day
High yielding hybrid that works across all soil types
Amazing drought tolerance with the Drought Guard VT2 trait
Good late season intactness
Long ears with nice tip fill
Excels at lower plant populations 28-36,000
Excellent Goss’s Wilt and Grey Leaf Spot tolerance
Flowers late but dries down really fast
SS might actually yield better
Costs a bit more
5610 PCE, Conv
New Powercore trait is basically VT2 with Herculex 1 added for better above ground pest control
New genetics from Corteva platform for product diversity across your farm
Good disease package with very good Tar Spot, Goss’s Wilt and Northern Leaf Blight tolerance
Very good stalks and roots
Very good early vigor
Strong drought stress if it gets hot and dry
Big ol stump of an ear - 18-22 round
Give it plenty of N and have good P, K, and Sulfer levels and let it yield!
Lower test weight
Doesn’t do well in low end yield environments
Grey leaf spot is a problem south of Hwy 3
Doesn’t move south of Hwy 3 well
Doesn’t like high temps - so just kept north of Hwy 3!
5510 SS, VT2
105 day
Tremendous yield potential
Good tar spot tolerance with solid agronomics and disease package
Put it on your best ground if possible
Very good anthracnose stalk rot
If possible, make sure we’re putting on plenty of N and fungicide
Great early vigor so can be planted early
5490 SS, VT2
104 day
Very strong, gutsy product with stable top end yields (consistently above average)
Very good stalks
Recommend fungicide on Corn-on-Corn
Responds well to high management
Yields as well as 5120
Really nice test weight with orangey, hard cap look
Great late season integrity
Not great early vigor
