Cori Cycle Flashcards
1
Q
What is the Cori Cycle?
A
AKA the lactic acid cycle and is the process of transporting lactate from cells that are undergoing anaerobic metabolism to the liver where it is used to provide glucose back to the cells.
2
Q
What is the product of anaerobic glycolysis?
A
Lactate
3
Q
Cardiac LDH (lactate dehydrogenase) is inhibited by what?
A
Pyruvate
4
Q
Briefly describe the Cori Cycle.
A
Muscle: Glycogen —-> Lactate (produced ATP)
(Muscle) Lactate —> Blood lactate —> (Liver) Lactate
Liver: Lactate —-> Glucose (used ATP to synthesize glucose)
