A naming word

A word that describes an action
Adjective
A describing word
Pronouns
Can take the place of a noun that’s already been used
Preposition
A word that describes where something is in relation to something else
Conjunction
A word used to connect clauses or sentences to coordinate words in the same clauses
Interjection
A word that interrupts and often appears on its own
Noun phrase
A small group of words which contains a noun but not a verb. Usually contains a noun and words to describe it
Appositive phrase
A part of a sentence in which 2 nouns or noun phrases are used to refer to the same thing, placed next to each other using parenthesis
Main clause
Stand alone as a sentence. Subject, verb and object
Subordinate clause
Cannot stand alone, complements a main clause, adds extra meaning or information
Relative clause
Used to give extra information about a noun. Introduced by a relative pronoun
E.g That, Which, Who, Whose, Where, When
Simple sentence
Consists of one clause, contains subject, verb and object.
Compound sentence,
Contains two simple sentences, joined with a conjunction
