Core 3 - Functions Flashcards
When a function is equal to -x
There is no solution to this equation, unless the graphs has been flipped.
When there is a function in the form:
a|x - b| + c = z
Then, solve the equation to make it equal to
|x - b| = u
If you know the domain of one function, how can you find the?
It’s the same
What is the range
the y values
What is the domain
The x values
Domain of a polynomial
All real values
Domain of fractions only
Say that the denominator is not equal to 0. Then solve, and say that x can be all real values, but not the solutions.
Domains of a square root (any even root)
The things inside the square root >= 0. Then solve.
Domains of a square root on the bottom
Set the things inside the bottom square root to be >= 0.
Domain of a square root on the top.
Say the top >= 0.
And the bottom =/ 0.
Domain of a sin curve
All real numbers
Domain of a tan curve
All real numbers, except cos(x) =/ 0.
Range of a tan curve
All real numbers
Range of a sin curve
-1 =< x <= 1
Range of a cos curve
-1 =< x <= 1
