Definitions of Health
A state of of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not nearly the absence of disease or infirmity. (WHO 1946)
Dimensions of Health
Physical, Social, Mental, Emotional, Spiritual health.
Social Health
the ability to interact with other people in an independent and cooperative way.
Physical Health
the wellness of the body and the absence of chronic pain or discomfort.
Emotional Health
A person’s mood or general state of emotion. The ability to recognise and express emotions adequately and appropriately.
Mental/Cognitive Health
The ability to process thoughts and information to assist in decision making, reasoning, planning and coping with adversity
Spiritual Health
A sense of overall purpose in life and feeling connected with others and society.
Relative nature of Health
the subjective judgements people make about their level of health in comparison to other individuals, and recognising that ‘good health’ can look different in different people
Dynamic nature of Health
the constant fluctuations that occurs in our level of health
