Vulnerability
The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (2015) states the following sources of stress for adolescents:

• separation or divorce of parents
• chronic illness or severe problems in the family
• death of loved one
• moving or changing schools
• taking on too many activities or having very high expectations
• family financial problems
identifies and automatically perceives specific situations as threatening, and the body responds to these situations through increased heart and breathing rates, increase blood circulation to muscles of both arms and legs, cold hands and feet, upset stomach, and the sense of dread about a particular situation.
Internal mechanism
It is thus suggested that adolescents do the following techniques to cope with stress:
• Exercise and eat healthy food
• avoid caffeinated drinks, alcohol, drugs, and tobacco
• learn relaxation exercises
• Practice responding properly stressful situations
• Learn practical coping skills
• Decrease negative self talk
• Learn to feel good about achievements
• Avoid perfectionism
• Take a break from stressful situations from time to time
• Establish strong ties with family and friends
