develops slowly, cough, dyspnea, sputum production, use of accessory muscles, under weight, chronic fatigue, wheezes
cor pulmonale
hypertophy of R side of heart. leads to R sided failure
what causes cor pulmonale
pulmonary hypertension
signs of cor pulmonale
jugular distention (from back up of blood), peripheral edema
exacerbations
acute change in pt usual dyspnea, use of accessory muscles, central cyanosis, peripheral edema, R sided failure
drug therapy
bronchodilator, oxygen therapy
bronchodilator
reduces dypsnea and increases FEV (advair/symbicort)
oxygen therapy
treat hypoxemia, use venturi mask
