COPD Flashcards
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary)Disease max cert
Maximum certification — 2 years
Screening pulse oximetry and/or arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis are indicated when:
Condition causes airway obstruction and pulmonary function test results are:
o FEV1 less than 65% of the predicted value.
o FEV1/FVC ratio less than 65%.
• Restrictive impairment is present and FVC is less than 60%
Recommend not to certify Pneumothorax if
hx of >2 spontaneous pneumothoraces on one side if no successful surgical procedure has been done to prevent recurrence.
Hypoxemia at rest.
Chronic respiratory failure.
continuing cough/ cough syncope.
Pneumothorax Waiting Period and max cert
Waiting Period — No recommended time frame
Maximum certification — 2 years
Recommend to certify if:
• asymptomatic
• confirmed resolution of the single spontaneous pneumothorax.
• Has had successful pleurodesis if > 1 PTX
Indicators for obtaining pulmonary function testing (PFT)
- History of any specific lung disease.
- Pulm Symptoms
- Cigarette smoking > 35 yo
If oximetry is less than _____________, the driver must have an ABG analysis.
92%
Recommend not to certify the driver when ABG measurements reveal:
• PaO2 less than:
- –> 65 mm Hg at altitudes below 5,000 feet.
- —>60 mm Hg at altitudes above 5,000 feet.
• PaCO2 > 45 mm Hg at any altitude.
Screening pulse oximetry and/or arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis are indicated when:
PFTs show:
o FEV1 less than 65%
o FEV1/FVC ratio less than 65%
o FVC is less than 60%.
If oximetry is less than 92% (oximetry equals 70), the driver must ______________
have an ABG analysis.
If a driver who has pulmonary valve stenosis has been treated with a post-balloon valvuloplasty, the driver must wait a minimum of ___________ before becoming certified.
one month
