COORDINATION COMPOUND Flashcards
What are Isomers?
Have the Same Molecular Formula
But Different PROPERTIES
Ionisation Isomers?
Give different ions in the solution.
[Co (NH3)4 Br2] SO4
[Co (NH3)4 SO4] Br2
Hydrate Isomers?
Different H2O molecules inside the Coordination Sphere.
[Cr (H20)6] Cl3
[Cr (H20)5 Cl] Cl2. H20
[Cr (H20)4 Cl2] Cl. 2H20
Linkage Isomers
In the case of an Ambidentate ligand by changing the donor atom.
[Co (NH3)5 NO2] Cl2
[Co (NH3)5 ONO] Cl2
Coordination Isomer?
When the cation and anion both are in the coordination sphere.
Interchange of ligand between two complex ions of the same complex
Geometric Isomerism NOT shown in case when C.N is 4?
TETRAHEDRAL
What is Cis Platin? Which treatment does it do?
[Pt (NH3)2 (Cl)2]
CANCER TREATMENT
How is GI possible or not?
Ligands को pairing करके different sets बनाए। फिर अगर 2 or more than 2 sets बने then GI is POSSIBLE.
Mabcd
(ab),(cd) ; (ac),(bd) ; (ad),(bc)
3 sets for GI POSSIBLE
Applicable for both CN=4 and CN=6
What does AB refer to in the complex [M(AB)2]?
AB refers to a bidentate ligand.
(AA),(BB) ; (AB),(AB)
Here, 2 sets are POSSIBLE therefore GI is also POSSIBLE.
An example is Diglycinato Platinum(II) complex
Optical Isomerism कौन show करते हैं?
जो Plane Polarised Light को rotate कर सकते है।
Optical Isomerism not shown by? ( In the case of CN=4 )
Both Tetrahedral and Square Planar
Which compounds are optically Inactive in the case of CN=6?
Compound in which 2 pairs are IDENTICAL in one of the sets like (ab),(ab) or if both ligands are identical in any one of the pair of any set like (aa)/(bb)
What does Facial and Meridonial mean in GI?
In Facial GI the three ligands are adjacent to each other unlike Meridonial.
[MA3B3]
Two sets are possible means 2 GI are present.
(AB),(AB),(AB) ; (AB),(AA),(BB)
Both sets are Optically Inactive as they have 2 identical pairs in each set
In [MA3BCD] How many Stereo isomers are possible?
There can be 4 sets possible here
1.{AA, AB, CD}
2.{AA, AC, BD}
3.{AA, AD, BC}
4.{AB, AC, AD}
So there are 4 GI POSSIBLE
ONLY 4th Set is Optically Active
Total no. of stereo isomers = No. Of Optically inactive compounds + 2 × No. Of Optically active compounds = 3 + 2 × 1 = 5
So, 5 stereo isomers are present
How to check Optical Isomers when CN is 6 for Bidendate ligand?
- Make a mirror image. If the image is non super impossible then OPTICALLY ACTIVE.
OR - If POS is absent then OPTICALLY ACTIVE and vice versa.
