Cooke et al Flashcards
What were his aims
to review research into correlation between theory of planned behaviour (TPB), variables, intentions to consume alcohol and alcohol consumption
What is the procedures
they reviewed 40 studies that measured the intentions to consume alcohol
they had measured personal attitudes, subjective norms and perceived controls
some also measured self efficacy
they had defined alcohol into categories “getting drunk” (drinking just to get drunk) and “heavy episode driking”
What were the findings
positive correlation with the intentions to consume and the actual consumption, intentions and attitudes
episodic drinking predicted intentions to drink more strongly than other types of drinking.
self-efficacy had positively correlated with both intentions to drink and actual consumption
What were his conclusions
TPB is useful in understanding intentions to drink alcohol
interventions to reduce drinking should target more personal attitudes and intentions rather than control and subjective norms
self-efficacy is a useful variable to measure studies and to target in interventions even though it is not directly part of the TPB
