Articulation

Coda/Outro
Section that brings song to an end
Flanger/Phaser
A digital effect that creates a ‘whoosing’ effect/sound
Hard rock
A loud aggression form of rock music with the electric guitar emphasised with distortion
Heavy metal
Heavily amplified and distorted electric guitar. Guitar solos - drums.
Lead guitar
The main guitar within a popular music ensemble which plays the melody
Lead singer
Sing the main tune or melody of the song. If the singer is alone they are called a soloist
Legato
musical notes are played or sung smoothly and connected.
Melisma
A group of notes or tones sung on one syllable in plainsong
Modulation
modulation is the change from one tonality to another.
Overdrive
a particular form of distortion caused by “pushing” an amp past its capability for producing a clean tone.
Overdubbing
Overdubbing (also known as layering) is a technique used in audio recording in which audio tracks that have been pre-recorded are then played back and monitored, while simultaneously recording new, doubled, or augmented tracks onto one or more available tracks of a digital audio workstation (DAW) or tape recorder.
Panning
Panning is the act of placing or moving a sound anywhere in the stereo field of a stereo playback system.
Primary chords
there are chords within the structure of diatonic harmony that are used more than any other chords within the song.
