What is interviewer bias
Interviewer affects the responses of the interviewee
What is the Greenspan effect
Interviewer makes affirmative noises e.g. mhmm
What is experimenter bias
When the experimenter affects the results through interpretation, body language, facial expressions, etc
What are demand characteristics
When participants think they’ve figured out the aims of the experiment and change their behaviour accordingly
What is social desirability bias
Participants try to look good by answering/behaving in a way they deem socially acceptable
What is the Hawthorne effect
Added attention of being in a study affects the participant behaviour
What is randomisation
Using chance at every opportunity
What is counterbalancing
Half of the participants don’t condition 1 and the other half do condition 2, then they swap
What is single blind design
Use of deception to mislead participants
What is standardisation
Keeping everything the same for every participant
What is double blind design
When the researcher and the participants don’t know the aims of the study
