Describe the six main crime control philosophies
A
- Retribution = is based on the notion of taking revenge on wrongdoers
- Deterrence = the belief that criminal
behaviors can be discouraged and prevented by punishing offenders - Incapacitation - based on the notion that if offenders are
held apart from society (incapacitated), they are not able to commit any
further crimes in the community - Restitution = which involves compensating victims, their families, or the community
for the losses they experienced due to a crime - Rehabilitation
Restorative justice - to repair the harm that was experienced by the victim and the community
when the offence occurred.

Identify the social and political reasons for the differential use of incarceration
A
According to the Conflict perspective, the justice system is used to keep power social groups in power and have more resources.

Describe various factors that shape our ideas about crime and justice
A
Media, television which could feed fear into people and give people false expectation of the justice system. For instance, showing white female characters are more likely to be victims of crimes. Furthermore, people might start to compare violence shown in America is the same in Canada.
