controlling blood glucose Flashcards
what does the amount of insulin needed to be injected depend on?
diet and active health
where did insulin used to be extracted from?
from the pancreas of pigs and cows, it is now made from genetic engineering and doesn’t have as adverse reactions
what is used to prevent transplant rejection?
costly immunosuppressive drugs which may have serious side effects
what will stem cell research and artificial pancreas’ help do?
eliminate organ rejection
what food puts glucose into the blood?
carbohydrates
what removes glucose from blood?

what is type 1 diabetes?
when the pancreas produces little or no insulin which can cause a rise in a persons glucose levels where it can kill them

- limiting intake of carbohydrates
- regular exercise helps lower blood glucose levels
- insulin therapy (injecting insulin into blood several times during day - it removes blood quickly once food is digested)
