Control of Arterial Blood Pressure Flashcards
1
Q
What is blood pressure
A
the outwards pressure applied by blood to the blood vessels
2
Q
What is systolic Arterial blood pressure
A
- The pressure exerted by blood on the walls of the aorta and the systemic arteries when the heart contracts
- Should not reach or exceed above 140 mm Hg under resting conditions
3
Q
What is Diastolic Arterial blood pressure
A
- The pressure exerted by the blood on the walls of the Aorta and systemic arteries when the heart relaxes
- Should not reach or exceed above 90 mm Hg under resting conditions
4
Q
What is the definition of hypertention
A
- Clinical blood pressure of 140/90 mm Hg or higher
- Day time average of 135/85 MM Hg or higher
5
Q
what are the values for
- low blood pressure
- ideal blood pressure
- pre-high blood pressure
- high blood pressure
A
6
Q
What is pulse pressure and what it the normal value
A
- Difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressues
- normally 30-50 mm Hg
7
Q
What drives the systemic circulaiton
A
A pressure gradient between the aorta and the right atrium drives the blood around the systemic circulation
8
Q
What are the 2 kortokoff sounds
A
1. systolic Bp
- first sound heard
5. Diastolic Bp
- Point at which sound disappears
9
Q
What is the Baroreceptor responce to increased blood pressure
A
10
Q
what is the barorecptor responce to Decreased blood pressure
A
