A

PROCEDURE STEPS
1. Verifies type and purpose of isolation
2. Applies appropriate PPE
3. Enters room, identifies patient, introduces self and department, and performs necessary task
4. Discards contaminated supplies appropriately
5. Removes PPE and follows universal precautions
6. Washes/gel hands
7. Re-gloves to clean or transport equipment to contaminated area
8. Discards gloves and re-washes/gel hands

Procedure Explanation & Freq

A
  1. Patient Sit-up
  2. Take in breath and exhale completely
  3. Put mouth around mouthpiece and ensure tight seal once breath is all out
  4. Take in a slow deep breath (Keep indicator between two lines) until lungs are filled
  5. Hold breath for 5-10 seconds
  6. Exhale completely all air in lungs

*Freq: 1. 10 Breaths Q H while awake (10 breaths “every hour” while awake)
2. QID (4 times a day)

16. Applies new dressing and trach holder if applicable
17. Reassess pt. and O2
18. Correctly cares for equipment following the procedure
