control and regulate Flashcards
how are sense organs important to an organisms environment
key the organisms surroundings
what are the five sense organs and their stimulus
skin - pressure, temperature, movement tongue- chemical substances sweet, sour, slaty, bitter eye- light nose- chemical odours ear- sound
receptor for the tongue and nose
chemoreceptor- tongue & nose
define stimulus, receptor & respons
stimulus - information that the body receives causing it to respond
receptor- structure that detects a stimulus or changes in the normal functioning of the body
respons- an action or movement due to a stimulus
explain the function of the nervous system
transmit signal between the brain & the rest of the body, including internal organs
list the parts of the nervous system
central nervous system is made of the brain and spinal cord that extend to all parts of the body
peripheral nervous system made of nerves that branch from the spinal cord extending to the rest of the body.
explain the overall function of the neurons
to pass signals through the body
explain how neutrons function
dendrites-> cell body-> axons(covered in myelin sheath)->axon terminals-> synapse-> neurone transmit
what travels through neurons
nerve impulse
different types of neurons
motor, sensory and interneurons
what’s the difference of the three types of neurones
sensory- carry signals from the outside of the body
motor - carry signals from the central nervous system to the outer body
interneurons- connect various neurons within the brain and spinal cord
diagram of stimulus and respons
stimulus -> receptor-> control center-> affector-> respons
what is automatic
involuntary or unconscious action
define reflex arc
when actions need to be carried out quickly, meaning it doesn’t pass fully through to the brain and stops at the spinal cord
endocrine glands
release hormones into bloodstream allowing it to pass in cells all around the body
