What are the two branches of the nervous system?
- The CNS - central nervous system.
- Peripheral Nerves
What does the central nervous system comprise of?
The brain and spinal cord
Name the;
multicoloured section
pink section
grey section
muticoloured - cerebrum
pink cerebellum
grey - medulla
Give the functions of each part of the brain.
Name the three types of neuron.
- Sensory neuron
- relay/interneuron
- motor neuron
Give the function of each type of neuron
What is the function of the receptor?
Receptors detect sensory input/stimuli.
How do signals pass along neurons?
By electrical impulses
How do impulses travel inbetweem neurons?
By chemical signals
Describe the reflex arc
What is the function of the reflex arc?
To protect the body from harm.
How do endocrine glands function?
Endocrine glands release hormones into the bloodstream.
What are hormones?
Chemical messengers
What do target tissues have?
A target tissue has cells with complementary receptor proteins for specific hormones, so only that tissue will be affected by these hormones.
