Contrasts Flashcards
1
Q
Pinkie and Ida
A
Considering that Graham Greene is a liberal writer, the contrast of Pinkie and Ida’s character is probably a social device to reflect how you cannot judge someone’s morals based on their religious beliefs.
2
Q
Pinkie and Colleoni
A
Pinkie has “grey inhuman seventeen-year-old-eyes” which parallels with Colleoni’s “black buttony eyes.” Greene uses the theory of physiognomy to highlight how both Pinkie and Colleoni are innately evil.
Pinkie wears a “shabby suit” whilst Colleoni wears a “double breasted waistcoat” and Greene repetitively refers to what Colleoni wears to emphasise the divide between the rich and poor criminals.
