continuous breeding Flashcards
what receptor does kisspeptin act on?
ligand for orphan gprotein coulped receptor, GPR54. increases GnRH secretion in hypothalamus.
where is GnIH secreted
dorsomedial nucleus in hypothalamus
where is CRH secreted
paraventricular nucleus in hypothalamus
where is GnRH secreted
preoptic region in hypothalamus
where is kisspeptin secreted
arcuate nucleus in hypothalamus
what is leptin?
released from adipose cells, major satiety signal to hypothalamus. lackof leptin or resistance leads to excessive appetite and obesity.
what does NPY do?
inhibits kisspeptin and GnRH
what does POMC do?
increases GnRH and kisspeptin
how does leptin affect POMC and NPY?
increases POMC but decreases NPY. THIS WILL INCREASE GnRH.
how does leptin resistance affect breeding in humans?
over elevated leptin levels will have no effect of POMC and NPY and so POMC isnt activated to increase GnRH and NPY isnt supressed and will inhibit kisspeptin and GnRH. less sexual function.
