CONTINUITY OF CELLS Flashcards
The cell cycle
G1- Organelles and others form here, the cells increase in size
G1 Checkpoint- Checks for DNA damage, cell size, availability of nutrients, presence of growth factors
S-Phase- DNA duplicated and chromatids form, histone protein forms
G2- Spindle proteins are synthesised, in preparation for cell division
G2 Checkpoint- Checks for DNA replication, cell size
S Phase
DNA synthesis occurs during the s phase and each chromosome is now made up of two genetically identical chromatids connected at the centromere, centrioles are replicated during the s phase
G2
Shorter than G1 and immediately precedes cell division, ATP is stored and built up during G2, synthesises the protein tubulin
