no one new every came into Maycomb and therefore everyone’s views became very similar and prejudice/stereotyping was common
1960’s Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks
racism was often being talked about and Harper Lee would have often heard speeches and talks about it
way black people were treated it court
they were often accused of crimes the didn’t commit, this exact thing happens in TKM
1930’s racism
southern america still had bad racism and it was normal to treat black people this way
Civil rights movement
black people fighting for their rights, racism was a huge theme of the 1930’s
Great Depression
poor families were left even worse off, many people lost their jobs, cunninghams and ewells were left to suffer, cunnninghams didn’t pay with money they payed will goods (food etc) lots of poverty
Racial Amalgamation
black people have their own church, they live outside the town, and are separated from the white people (segregation)
