What does complex interdependence mean?
theory that states and their fortunes are inextricably tied together
What does Realism mean?
States are the most important and authoritative actors in global politics, and their primary goal is to protect their own national interests
What does Liberalism mean?
States’ interests in global politics are linked and independent, and best advanced through states working closely with each other and with non-state actors in order to achieve common political objectives
What is International Anarchy
Concept that the world system is leaderless: there is no universal sovereign or worldwide government
What is Security dilemma?
theory that actions by a state intended to increase its security, such as increasing its military strength, can lead to other states responding with similar measures, producing increased tensions that create conflict
What is global governance?
movement towards political intervention of transnational actors aimed at negotiating responses to problems that affect more than one state or region
(bringing governments together)
What is anarchical society and society of sates?
theory that the states of the world can be members of a society despite the anarchical (no government of world) nature of the international system
What is Legitimacy?
The legal right to exercise power for example the governments right to govern after an election
What is democratic deficit?
A perceived deficiency in the way particular democratic body works. particularly in respect of the extent to which citizens can hold political power and those in power to account over policy
What does deficit mean ?
gap/shortage
What is participation crisis?
A lack of engagement with politics political system e.g. where large numbers of citizens choose not to vote or to engage in political debates or events.
Party membership is a client and the range of citizens standing for elective office is narrow
