Advantages:
- Packaging is good for consumer as can keep food fresher for longer preventing food waste
- is bright and colourful encouraging customers to buy it increasing variety in diet
- packaging contains data which lets them know when it goes off preventing food poising
Disadvantages:
- Some don’t clean packaging and so can’t be recycled bad for environment as ends up in landfill
- animals may get stuck/injured/eat packaging and become harmed
- packing made using fossil fuels which is contributing to global warming

Advantages:
-Foods are cheaper to produce and so more easily affordable by those on budget
Consumers are mostly unaware of the conditions therefor buy factory farmed foods as they know no difference

- possibly animal diseases spreading and passing into humans
- use of antibiotics and growth hormones may find their way into human food chain

Advantages:
- nutrition value may be improved which may improve health/meet health needs
- they are better preserved which prevents food waste
- they are better looking so are more appealing

- don’t know long term health effects and don’t want to risk health
- they might be vegetarian/vegan so against foods that contain animal genes
- might have strict religious rules and so eating animal genes is against their religion
- may be environmentally aware as may be concerned about impact on environment

Advantages:
- buying locally can reduce food miles and impact on environment
- foods can be fresher more nutritious and taste is improved
Disadvantages
- buying locally can be more expensive
- no variety/less choice as somethings won’t be in season
- food that isn’t local uses lots of fuel which produces carbon dioxide adding to global warming

- monitor all media outlets to ensure food adverts are not misleading
- take action against misleading/offensive adverts, sales promotions and direct advertising of food products
- ensures food labelling is accurate e.g if something is labelled fair trade, organic, free range it is actually those things that they meet guidelines and laws
How does Trading Standard protect consumers interest?
- will check factories, shops, pubs, markets for accurate weights/measures in food products and drinks
- will check food labelling is accurate
- will check adverts/description of products are correct/ what it says it is/ accurate

- offer information and advice to help consumers make more information choices
- they test food products/appliances/food services etc find best and publish results which saves time searching for good product

Offer free confidential advice on what next steps should be if you have a problem eg complaint
- a restaurant food hygiene, they would refer you to EHD
- faulty freezer, cooker, fridge, etc may help get money back
