Contact and non contact forces Flashcards
What are contact forces?
Forces which come to action only when two objects are in physical contact with eo. Ex- Muscular forces and frictional forces
What is muscular force?
The force exerted by the action of muscles is called as muscular force.
What is frictional force?
The force exerted when one body moves over the surface of another body. It is always opposite to the relative motion of an object
What are non-contact forces?
The force exerted even when two objects are not in contact with each other. Ex- Magnetic force, gravitational force, electrostatic force
What is magnetic force?
A force exerted by a magnet either on another magnet or a magnetic material like cobalt, nickel or iron
What are the tree types of magnetic materials?
Ferromagnetic- Strongest attraction
Paramagnetic- Weak attraction
Diamagnetic- Repelled
What is Gravitational force?
Every object in this universe attracts every other object with a force called gravitational force.
What are the properties of gravitational force?
1) Depends on the mass of the objects
2) Depends on the distance between the centeres of the objects
3) It is always attractive
4) It is equal for both the objects
5) The force brings the objects to move towards each other and the change in the speed is at faster rate for lighter object
6) This force is independent of the medium between the objects
7) Long range force and the weakest force in the nature
What is Electrostatic force?
It is the force exerted by a charged bod on another charged or uncharged body
