Purpose of consultation
To provide the client with correct and most suitable treatment

- Record important & key info
- Assess whether the treatment is suitable
- Explain the treatment allow questions
- Ask the client about concerns
- Ensure you provide safe & effective treatment
- Establish a rapport and build confidence
Consultation is necessary as it long answers
- The client has the opportunity to talk to the therapist and explain reason for having treatment
- The therapist can establish the needs of the client and desired outcomes from the treatment
- Allows the client to ask questions and for the therapist to address any concerns
- Treatment and benefits can be explained to the client,offer further advice and suggest and treatment plan
- Determines if any contraindications are present to prevent treatment or if treatment can be adapted
- Allows the therapist to record clients questions and respones
What is a contraindication
A symptoms or condition that makes a particular treatment unadvisable
Reason why itβs important to carry out a consultation
Because of allergies, skin disorders, reactions, questions they have

What is a minor
A minor is the legal name for a person under the age of 16 years of ages
Who can not be treated without any contradictions
Minors under the age of 16 can not be treated without parental consent
Who can give a minor consent for a treatment and when they have to be there
A parent or guardian who must be present at the initial consultation

- Observation
- Questioning and listening
- Reference to client records
- use of Visual aids
What is observation
Look at body language
Shy= put them at ease
Stressed= be calm and reasuring
What to look for in a clients appearance
Clear skin, shiny hair,bright eyes=good health
Pallor, lank, lifeless hair and dull eyes= depression or other problems
What does pallor mean
Pale skin colour caused by illness, emotional shock or stress, stimulant use or anaemia
What does open question do for a client
Free response from client giving opportunity to express their wishes
