Construction rules Flashcards
What is a bumper
A required part of the electromechanical assembly (robot)
Must go all around except for 1/2 gaps
What is KOP?
“kit of parts”
items listed on the current seasons kickoff kit checklists
What is a component?
any part in its most basic torm which cannot be disassembled without damaging or destroying the part/fundamental function
What is a mechanism?
can be built and unbuilt and is an assembly of components as a specific function of the robot
What does COTS mean?
Commercial Off The Shelves
(not custom made) parts made unaltered before installation & available for all other teams to aquire
What is a legitimate vendor?
-has federal tax ID number
- is NOT wholly owned subsidiary of FIRST
-should maintain stock (maintain accessibility to other teams)
-make products available to ALL teams
What’s a fabricated item?
Anything altered to be used in a robot
What must you come prepared with to inspection? Why?
documentation of parts from LEGITIMATE vendors if it is not part of KOP
How must your robot be at the starting configuration?
nothing can protrude out of the perimeter except for things like bolt heads or rivets
What is the weight limit of a robot?
125 lbs (excluding location tags, batteries, and bumpers)
What are the size restrictions of the robots perimeter?
120 inches perimeter (any shape)
max of 4 ft up
12 inches out of the robot
What are safety restrictions?
No digging into the carpet for traction
No exposed sharp edges
No hazardous material
What must the robot do when the match is over?
Must be able to release the notes when disabled. (notes can not be taken off the field)
What is the limit on individual item costs?
Bulk items can exceed $600
Components or KOP items must be under $600
What is not generally permitted this year?
Custom parts made before kickoff
excludes: bumpers, consoles, battery assemblies, COTS with no significant changes, fabricated items consisting of 1 COTS
When can you use old designs or code?
After kickoff if you have published it
When can you work during comp?
pit hours unless charging batteries, changing program, or adjusting cosmetics
What are restrictions to bumpers?
must he removable for inspection, must stay low within bumper zone (volume between floor and virtual plane 7 1/2 in off the floor), shouldn’t mive, and must indicate your alliance, team # and FIRST logo
How must the bumper be constructed?
no more than 15 lbs
3/4 x 5 1/2 in tall plywood
cushion material can’t be modified other than to get it to size
covered in smooth cloth solid color
fill corners
supported by robot
What is the limit on electrical solenoid actuators or electromagnets?
no great than 40 watts at 12 volts
What are restrictions on nominal fans?
no greater than 10 watts at 12 volts
How many propulsion motors can you have?
4 (motors that thrust the bot on the field)
Can you modify motors?
only if you are adding mounting brackets, additional wiring, lock pins, connectors from KOP, servos, minimal labeling to indicate purpose
Where must wiring not go?
On the frame. It should be in protected casings within the robot and not using the frame to carry current
How should wiring be?
Visible for inspection
One breaker per circuit
What colors do you use for wires?
red, yellow, white, brown, or black with stipe (positive)
black or blue (common/negative)
How do you control the robot?
specified radio that receives roboRIO
How do you tether the robot?
ethernet
Restrictions on pneumatics
not greater than 120 psi in the (legal) compressor, not modified, approved,
How can you set up driver station?
driver station software
visible display
ethernet to the operator console
wireless
