A

A

Equal protection = treating a group different from others.

    + 11th Amendment (sovereign immunity - no action against state government, unless Congress removes protection)
    + Original jurisdiction of Supreme Court (admiralty, ambassadors)

  3. Standing: CONCRETE AND PARTICULARIZED INJURY
    + No federal taxpayer standing (except to challenge congressional spending)
    + Asserting the rights of others: standing + close relationship + can’t assert on his own

A

CONTRACT CLAUSE: State and local government (not federal) cannot make law changing contract obligations

No government can make criminal law that retroactively changes the following:

+ reduce evidentiary burden to convict

A

Rights of everyone

Fundamental rights: 1A, voting, interstate travel, privacy (unenumerated)

Interstate travel: right to travel to a new state and not be treated differently there

Voting:
+ 1 person, 1 vote principle
+ State and local election: substantially equal numbers for districts, unless deviation is reasonable and promoted government interest
+ Federal (Congress) election: almost mathematical equality
+ Gerrymandering: cannot ba based on race. poitical gerrymandering non-justiciable
