Amendment II
Give people the right to keep and bear arms
Amendment I
freedom of speech, Congress cannot make laws establishing a national religion or preferring one religion over the other
Amendment III
Prevents soldiers from being housed in private homes without the consent of the owners
Amendment IV
protects citizens against unreasonable searches and seizures
Amendment V
Sets the limits of criminal law- private property cannot be taken for public use without just compensatin
amendment VI
States the rights of persons accused of crimes
Amendment VII
Deals with civil suits and the right to have a trial by jury
Amendment VIII
forbids excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishment
Amendment IX
Protects rights not laid out in the constitution
Amendment X
preserves for the states or people any powers not given to the federal government
Delegated powers are:
Powers that are specifically granted to the federal government by the Constitution (powers of the federal government).
These powers are NOT given to the states.
Ex: declare war, regulate immigration, enforce laws, establish foreign policy, etc.
* Delegated power power is not given to the states themselves
concurrent powers are:
Powers in a country’s government shared by both the federal government and state governments.
Ex: create taxes, build roads, have a military, hold elections, convict people of crimes, etc.
