Democracy v Republic:
A
Democracy:
- All people vote in all governmental matters (Ancient Greece)
Democratic Republic:
- The people vote in representatives to a central government who make decisions for the public (America)

A
- The Founding Father’s first attempt to construct a Constitution after the Revolutionary War
- Failed because the document was to loose and weak to work (Last 10 years)

The Constitution (1787):
A
- The supreme law of the United States, extended the Articles of Confederation
- 10+ Amendments come from this document
NEW RULES IMPOSED: - Declare war; make peace
- Coin money (Great deal of money easily or very quickly)
- Manage foreign affairs
- Established a postal system
- Imposed taxes
- Regulated trade
- Organized a court system
- Call state military for service
- Protect copyrights
- Take necessary action to run the government

Northwest Ordinance:
A
- This area of land was sold to colonist by the federal government in order to RAISE REVENUE because they did not have the power to tax states directly under the Articles of Confederation

Shays Rebellion:
A
- Occurred in Massachusetts when the state government increased taxes on western farmers
RESULT: These men (farmers) raided an arsenal, took up arms, and were marching towards Boston to shut down the courts

- Proposed by William Patterson in favor of a single house legislature and equal representation for each state no matter what size or population

Great Compromise or Connecticut Promise:
A
- Roger Sherman compromise between small and large states on 2 house legislature (House and Senate), 1 house would have representation on each state’s population, and the Senate would have equal representation

- For every 5 slaves would count as 3 votes. Southern states would pick up delegate (votes) to the House and Electoral votes with the increase in population to the states
