-reinforces idea that federal gov only has those powers expressly enumerated in the constitution, while all the other powers are left to the states

-listing certain rights in the constitution does not mean that other rights not specifically mentioned, aren’t protected
-relevant to federalism because it suggests that the state gov may have powers and rights not explicitly listed in the constitution, protecting the principle of local control and autonomy

-limits ability of individuals to sue states in federal court
-reinforces sovereignty of states by making it more difficult for federal courts to intervene in matters concerning state actions

-Establishes that Constitution is supreme law of the land
-requires judges in every state to follow federal law, even if state laws or state constitution contradicts it
-states can’t pass laws that conflict with the Constitution or federal statutes
